We got Willie from the Coon Rapids Humane Society. We were stunned that no one scooped up this lil lover before we got there. He's such a cuddler! He just melted in our arms when we held him in the meet room. He enjoys giving kisses and nibbling ears. He also loves chasing squirrels, birds and his big sister Pepper all around the yard--our garden will never be the same. And when Pepper has had enough, he tosses sticks in the air and plays fetch with himself. Willie is a joy and has been an amazing addition to our family.Click for more pictures and comments...

Siskel The Kitteh has her OWN style when it comes to using the water thingy, thank you very much! From Frank S., who says “This is my cat Siskel (her brother Ebert isn’t in this video.) She’s been drinking normally from this pet fountain for over a year now but lately she’s taken to drinking in other ways. She sometimes dips her paw and then licks it; other times she pretends she’s a mountain lion and drinks like this.”Filed under: Uncategorized Tagged: Caturday, kitteh

    24 Oct 2014 | 12:00 pm
After months in the care of the California Wildlife Center in Malibu, California, five orphaned fawns enjoy their first moments back in the wild where they belong. Orphaned fawns are prevented from seeing human faces and forms during their time in the rehabilitation setting. In keeping with that policy, this video was filmed from behind a camouflage blind in the woods, by a volunteer. This is going to be a pretty personal post and it’s also going to be a pretty sad one. It’s been a little while since I’ve posted and I apologize for that but I hope you’ll understand things have been a bit difficult. On Monday, October 13th, my dear friend Rosa Tufts, passed away at 35 after a five year battle with cancer. I was lucky enough to get to see her the Friday before she passed and I’ll hold that memory with me for the rest of my life. She was laughing and smiling, even though she had been told she only had a few weeks left at the most. I can’t…

  • Goodbye to Our Beloved Bookstore Kitty Friend

    Laurie Cinotto
    24 Oct 2014 | 11:00 am
A dear kitty friend passed away last week.  His name was Miko, and he was a beloved shop cat who made his home at King's Books.  This charming tabby lived well into his teens. His body was getting thin and wobbly, his coat a little duller, but that little man just kept on going.  In all of his days, his spirit was bright. He took his duties as shop cat quite seriously, and could usually be found right there on the front counter, lounging in his bed, sitting in a box, or draped across the credit card machine or computer keyboard, waiting to greet anyone who stepped into the…

I was looking for a few Halloween decorations, and ran across Wylla's autumnal owl sweater tucked away in a drawer.   I slipped it on her, and was surprised to see that it was such a snug fit on her this season.   Here's a photo of her sporting the sweater last fall.  She weighed a hair over four pounds here. Here's the photo I took yesterday.  She weighs six pounds, and her body is much longer now.  The sweater doesn't offer the coverage it once did!   Though it doesn't fit properly, I don't think we'll be going sweater shopping.  She has a little more meat…

Well, Mary's been busy.   She stitched fifty, yes FIFTY, beds for the kitties. Before I left on my trip, I met Mary at the shelter when she delivered the beds.  Look at the stack!   And look at the cute little Tabby roosting on top. Mary sent over a couple of pictures to share with you.  Here's a portion of the fleece it took to create all the beds. And here's her Sophie giving the blankets a test and making sure they were soft and…

Neighbor Kate puts a full display up for nearly every holiday and season of the year.  Halloween is by far her favorite, and she plasters her entire yard and the exterior of house with spiders, bats, cats, and pumpkins.  It's quite festive and a sight to behold! Wylla and Charlene enjoy watching the moving components of the display from our front window, and are entertained by all the curious folks who stop to take a look.  I took Wylla on a stroll this morning, and we walked by Kate's to examine the display up close, and let Wylla spend some time perched with the pumpkins.

I returned home in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday and got a very warm greeting from my two favorite cats.   Though I had plenty of kitty company with Nigel and Mimsey,  I missed my girls deeply, and was so happy to be back with them again.  I think they missed me too. All day Sunday, they kept close. We shared a few naps, and enjoyed a beautiful fall day. It's good to be back. I've got a lot on my plate at the moment, so I won't be racing down to the shelter to pick up a new batch, but it won't be too much longer before we restock on kittens. Now that I'm home, blogging…

Five Former Feral Feline Fosters [3]Lana says: Last year I fostered five feral kitten siblings from the time they were about six weeks old. I named them all after programming languages: Perl, Ruby, Haskell, Scheme, and Dreamweaver. Ruby and Perl are the mostly-buff-colored ones, Haskell is the grey tabby, Scheme is the orange-and-cream tabby, and Dreamweaver is the longhaired tricolor. When they first arrived, I thought Ruby and Perl were little girls, hence the feminine names. I found out a few days later that they were actually little boys, but the names stuck anyway. Ruby was a very…

My girlfriend called me while I was overseas because she'd seen him in a pet store near our home here in Sydney, Australia, and wanted to bring him home. After our first two foster litters found new homes, we took in another litter in late September. This new group had been living in squalid conditions in a crawlspace beneath a crumbling home near downtown Richmond. The kittens looked to be about five weeks old when they came to us. They were chubby little things, with soft fur and personality plus. Four were grey-and-white tuxedos who looked very much alike, making it…

Kombucha is one of the trendiest things out there right now. It’s a beverage made by slightly fermenting black or green tea with SCOBY (a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast). Some people absolutely swear by it, claiming it helps with digestion, weight loss, sleep, your immune system, keeps you from going bald, saves you from cancer, pays your taxes, achieves world peace, etc. Basically, the “elixir of life”. Others, however, find it to be all talk and no action. Or, in the worst of cases, the wrong kind of action! Some home brewers have produced some dangerous batches,…

During my fall trip to Italy, I stayed in the Tuscany region (near Montevarchi) and the home-away host recommended Siena as one of the places to visit.  She preferred this city more than Florence, since its much less crowded and they kind of have some similarities. Siena did remind me a bit like Florence, the way the town…
