Peyton is a rescue who immediately won our hearts and is a daily source of fun and joy. He is a hound mix (our best guess is Treeing Walker Coonhound) who is an incredibly quick learner. He's learned, for example, that if you steal the tennis ball from the big dog, she will play with you and chase you around the yard! He loves to play with stuffed toys and even buries chew bones in the back yard.Click for more pictures and comments...

Hi I'm a Goldendoodle named Theodore R, but you can call me Teddy. My humans named me after Theodore Roosevelt. I came to them right after the first of the New Year and I've been bringing them tons of laughs, kisses, and fuzzy tails wags ever since. My favorite day was when I discovered snow! I don't know why humans complain about it so much. It's awfully fun to dig and play and bury your nose in it. I also really enjoy learning new tricks, and some I learn faster than others. I'm really good at 'sit,' 'give paw' and 'high five' but I need some work…

Here are some fun creative ideas from Vt Wonen magazine to transform your child’s room into a cheerful and functional play area. I like that they bring in nature and play into the indoor living space. You can do these relatively easy decorating projects yourself in a single weekend. Just gather some everyday items in the house (or backyard), and creativity! I really like the branch clothes rack idea, which helps to bring nature into the home. The many blackboards on the wall are also great for hours of doodling. Most of all, I’m smitten by the sweet camping (canopy) tent bed,…

It’s time to recognize the end of a small era. The Daily Cute launched in 2006 and at one point regularly had over 30,000 unique visitors per day. The site was abuzz with thousands of visitors from Facebook and StumbleUpon and it seemed like it’d grow indefinitely. But that time has come and gone. The fact is with content aggregator sites like Reddit and other blogs with significantly higher budgets and multiple editors, The Daily Cute has faded away into relative obscurity. These days, The Daily Cute struggles to receive over 500 viewers per day. Unfortunately, that does not…

  • Hottest Day of the Year. So Far.

    Laurie Cinotto
    28 Apr 2015 | 9:12 am
Yesterday was the hottest day of the year. So far.Craig worked from home, and had to abandon his upstairs office in the early afternoon to seek a cooler spot on the main floor.   Of course, the cats stayed up there to absorb all the heat and make large and dramatic flops on the rug. Bean went belly-up and Wylla stretched out on her side. Both were in different positions, but  were equally deflated and flat. With such a warm days so early in the year, I fear we have a long, hot summer ahead!  Pace yourself, girls.   How do your kitties handle the heat?

We had a little barbecue to celebrate Craig's birthday this weekend. Bean kept a low profile and napped upstairs during most of the party, but when we were down to the last few guests, she came downstairs, pulled up a chair, and joined us at the dining room table. She does this at every party we host and I don't think really wants to mingle, she just needs to know what's going on. And she doesn't really want a beer, she just needs to know what we're drinking. What do your cats do when you entertain? Life of the party? Wallflower?
  • A Color Coordinated Cat!

    Laurie Cinotto
    24 Apr 2015 | 8:01 am
Well, at about 6:00 last night we cracked open the paint cans and had a go at it. We put the cats upstairs while we worked away and by midnight our kitchen was painted coral with a bright white trim.Wylla and Charlene weren't happy about be trapped upstairs without us and when we opened the door and set them free they gave us a good scolding. Then they had dinner and all was well. The color, Tuscan Coral by Benjamin Moore, felt a little dark when it was wet last night, but as it dried it lightened, and now I feel it's the perfect shade. In daylight it looks even better. And look at Wylla!
  • Considering the Cats

    Laurie Cinotto
    23 Apr 2015 | 9:19 am
Charlene was a young thing when I painted the foyer. Her eyes were the prettiest shade of blue and I selected a paint color that was inspired by those lovely peepers of hers.  The color was called "Spring Rain" - how fitting for a  Northwest kitty born in March!  I added a dark wood table with a creamy marble top in the entryway - very similar to Butterbean's fur color combo - and then I realized I had designed a space around my cat. I'm aware that what I'm about to say is a little on the nutty side, but now Wylla and Charlene are usually a factor in my decision making…

Wylla had an acupuncture appointment/ check-up last week. Everyone at the office loves Wylla and we usually play a round of "pass the kitten" when we first arrive. Vet tech Sarah, who happens to be our dear friend and kitty sitter, gave Wylla a hug first. She handed her to Doc, and Doc  joked "I think we need to keep her here for, umm, observation, umm, in my office," and she started making a move to towards the door. I love how they love her! She loves them too and is always comfortable in their arms. We've visited the vet's office so many times in Wylla's two years - she's always…

So now she lives together with her mom, dad, and auntie Pistachio who helps take care of her. As she lives every day with them, the agreement is friendly. I have always lived with cats and I cannot imagine living without their presence beside me. Many people asked me to allow Nougat, my male Persian, to breed with their cats, but Persians aren't good breeders and after many unsuccessful attempts, I stopped trying to breed him. • What is carob?

    claire
    27 Apr 2015 | 2:15 pm
Carob is often used as a substitute for cocoa. It comes in little pods that grow on carob trees, which can be found around the Mediterranean and in parts of the Middle East. Carob works as a chocolate alternative because it tastes kind of like unsweetened cocoa, but it’s actually an entirely different thing and does different things to your body. Many people prefer it simply because it contains no stimulants, like caffeine or theobromine. Carob is also great because it has a whole bunch of calcium. When directly compared with chocolate, it’s low in fat and higher in sugar, but…

What a fun fact! Here’s another: olive trees are nearly the oldest plants that people have actually grown on purpose for food. We’ve been harvesting olives for something like 8000 years! This is what an olive tree looks like. And this is what the olive berries look like on the branches. Kalamata olives are almond-shaped and usually a dark purple. They’re from Greece. Castelvetrano…
